My disk light is often constantly locked on solid during internet activity and I never know what is happening. I know I can bring up the Task Manager but it moves around too fast and the running apps are usually mysterious in what they are really doing. There must be a tool out there that takes the top two or three applications/processes that are causing the solid light and not only displays them but explain what their purpose is.
Thanks for the suggestion. I went there and it too is moving too quickly and with too many entries. I'm just looking for the one or two that are hogging the process at that moment in time. I'm basically trying to see who is occupying my connection into the computer from the outside at that time. It's always nerveracking to see something happening beyond your control and not knowing what it is.
Well, you can also look in the Processes tab in Task Manager under the Description column to see what is using up the most memory at the top if the list. This may help indicate what is also using the drive. If you are not sure what file a listed process belongs to, then right click on the process and click on Open File Location to ID it.
To be safe though, you should run a full antivirus and malware scan.
The last suggestion is what I'm looking for I think. Under the view tab you can pause it so that you can look to see what the top processes are without them moving around. I try it next time I see the disk going crazy.
