Backing up large file to DVD

I have a 13Gb image backup which I would like to copy to DVD.
Is there a utility which will split this file (and recombine it) into DVD size chunks which I can then copy to disk? Or a DVD burning utility which will do this automatically?
Hopefully freeware!

Does your imaging program allow DVDs as output devices. If no, you can't do it. DVDs are generally no good for imaging. Use an extenal disk instead.

My imaging program has creates the image file on hard disk, but I was hoping that I might be able to take that file and split it so that I could have a further back-up to DVD in case of disk failure.
I take it that isn't possible?

You can always copy it to a second external disk or even a large 32GB USB stick - but CD is bad news.

Yes, try HJsplit.

Download Winrar Welcome to Winrar, once you have installed it right click on the file you want to compress and and click "Add to archive" down the right bottom side off the menu there will be a drop down box saying "Split to volumes" select DVD and it will spit it into 4.4gb parts.

Frostmourne - HJsplit looks useful if you don't want to be tied to a particular archiving utility.
smarteyeball - I've got iZarc installed and your suggestion prompted me to dig around in there. It does have a split archive option too, although I did have to RTFM to find it!
Crispy2007 - your link doesn't point to the winrar utility website, and don't you have to pay for winrar?

WinRAR is not freeware, its trialware although it never seems to expire. Anyway any of these options are good.

Pretty much all of these compression tools have a spanning option and will do the job. It just becomes a matter of personal preference.
