Overclocking Temps?

Okay I'm curious on what temps I should be cautious of reaching? I have a Intel Centrino 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz. I've overclocked it to 2.4GHz and ran Orthos and about 3-4 minutes I checked HWMonitor. I was reaching temps around 75 Celsius (167 degrees Fahrenheit) on the CPU. So my question is, is that a safe temp to operate at and what is the "danger level" I should be concerned about? Thanks for your help in advance:)

I dont think so...my temp remains at 45~55 when doing nothing,i even got 39 sometimes...
When i play gta 4 i get around 65..so i think 75 is pretty high lol

i'm certainly no Guru dude but i believe internal case temp should remain @ or around 40*C specified by Intel for current desktops i believe , dont quote me :)
do you have sufficient air flow around your system or can you improve this
i'd say its quite high
i'm sure others will help more than i can

Hello AsusRoG,
Those temps are way too high.
What CPU cooler do you have ?, you need to get the the temps down to at least the low to mid 50C's when under load or your CPU wont last very long, also some more case fans may help, but not knowing your system specs its a bit hard too say.
Fill in your system specs and we will see what we can do to help.

This is a laptop?

And are you using software to overclock?

Those temps are high, (especially if that's the tcase temp) but it's how much voltage your using that should be the real concern.

There's a good chance you will run into heat problems during extended periods of high load.

Yes this is a Laptop. Its Asus G51 model. When the computer is at idle, the temps are around 47-51 Celsius. I used Orthos which stresses the cores of the processor and I have HWmonitor which tells me the temps of the CPU, GPU, HD, and THRM. After a few minutes of the stress test the temps of the 2 cores average about 75 Celsius. BUt fans kicked on high and kept it around that. I also have my laptop somewhat elevated for better circulation. Also I've noticed there is only one main vent on the laptop. Its on the left side of the keyboard.

Oh and yes I'm using Setfsb software for overclocking and I'm going by a guide too. I just want to make sure my temps aren't to dangerous.

Those temps are still 'safe' , but they are right near the limit. I certainly wouldn't run it at those temps for any extended period of time.

If the CPU gets too hot, the built in thermal throttling will kick in and either slow your CPU right down, or more likely shut the laptop down until it cools. ( Unless you have disabled the feature in BIOS)

Since Orthos is an artificial test, it may be worthwhile monitoring the temps while doing 'real world' tasks.

Generally speaking, overclocking a laptop is considered a bad idea simply because of inadequate cooling. Elevating and ensuring the intake fan is unobstructed like you are doing is a good start.

I would say, running at those temps will reduce the life of your CPU.
I know Intel post some high temps for your CPU, but running at 75C for prolonged periods is not a good idea.
I would download SpeedFan and a good CPU bench mark and give it a good run, its better to know, even if you don't like the results.
You may want to consider a cooling mat too.

your overclocking a laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! btw you need to run Orthos for at least 8 hours to ensure a stable OC
