I have a WD Elements Hard Drive, 160Gb, when I plug it into my computer, Vista business 32 bit, I cannot access the hard drive, it works on other computers and even when I plug it into my computer the blue light on the hard drive is on so I figured it must be my computer? but other hard drives work on my computer.. any help would be much appreciated thanks.

You may need to take ownership of the drive and give yourself full control before it will allow you access.

Hi, I tried to take ownership of the drive but I keep getting the message ;the system cannot find the file specified. This is really confusing and frustrating. Thanks for the help anyway.
My Computer
You might see if backing up the data on the drive on another computer, then formating it on your computer to see if you have access then. If so, then you can just copy the data back.

I went onto the WD website and downloaded the Fat32 fomatter, I used this program to format the hard drive (for some reason this program recognizes the hard drive) I formatted it after backing up, and still no luck.

You might see if you can boot from your Vista installation disc and go through the installation only to the point to select Drive options (advanced), then see if you can delete and format the drive from here instead. Afterwards, just close the installation window at boot to back out of the installation and restart the computer without actually doing a install.
