Trying to install updates; get error msg?

Trying to install updates; get error 646

So I get the nag icon to install 'critical updates.'

When I install 'em, I get this. Now what?

What if you tried installing the security update for Works first?
Also, can you disable virus scanner and any programs running?

i don't even have Office. I tried just the "works" one- I dont even know what that is. Disabled Window Firewall and AVG..no change.

Do I need any of this stuff?

yes but do i need these or can i ignore? I don't need works or office, do I? I us Open Office. I tried to uninstall Works, it wouldn't let me.

So I noticed the little (!) icon, so I did it. It shut down, installed, rebooted, and said all updates installed. Then....this icon came back..I go to Windows Update..and they're back and say I need to update them. Uh..........huh?
