Is that overclocking?(the famous 1:1)

My cpu is Q6600.
I have read so many times about how good is the FSB : DRM 1:1 and that you gain extra speed and,and....
And i decide to give it a try.
My cpu is 9x266 and my ram 800mhz
So i changed the cpu to 6x400 and i set my ram to [2.00D]
I also set manualy the ram timings in the correct (Factory Stock) 5-5-5-15
I DIDEN'T change anything else,no voltage,no vcore,NOTHING.
Result: at last i get the famous 1:1 in cpuz (before was 2:3)and 5,9 in Windows Experience Index.(before was 5,6) so far so good.
But i dont want to overclock,i dont want to damage my hardware.
And i will like to know,are all the above normal changes or is everclocking and maybe it will damage my hardware?

You have not overclocked. Your CPU runs at a frequency which is governed by the product of the FSB and the multiplier.

Calculations: 9 * 266 = 2394 MHz and 6 * 400 = 2400 MHz.

As you can see, your CPU is still running at the same clock frequency ~2.4 GHz.

What about the System Memory Multiplier? i choose the [2.00D] <-- is that the correct??

Setting the System Memory Multiplier to 2.0 will just keep your RAM at the rated speed of 800MHz as with DDR2, you half the rated speed, so 800 = 400MHz, then you have your multiplier to 2.0 so you're still just keeping the same 800MHz speed, so yea in essence is it correct having it at this setting.

If you set it higher, you'd increase the RAM speed, but then you'd also remove the 1:1 ratio.

Yea that's right, you've got 1:1 ratio, but like what Dwarf has said, you've not really overclocked everything as your CPU is still the same speed. If you're happy with leaving them at the same speeds, but keeping 1:1 ratio, then that's fine to stay with.

What is the different between [2.00A] [2.00B] [2.00C] [2.00D]?

The letters correspond to what FSB speed you have.

2.00A = 266
2.00B = 333
2.00C = 200
2.00D = 400

So as you have an FSB of 400, you have 2.00D.

Ive tried to set the ram timings at 4-4-4-12 but i get BSOD.
Am i doing something wrong?Did i miss something?

You will most likely need to increase the voltage. Increase the voltage by 1 increment then try booting again. If it blue screens/crashes, the increase the voltage a bit more. It shouldn't need that much more voltage, though.

I use the timings of 5-4-4-12 2T with my overclocked RAM and just needed to increase the voltage by 1 increment and it works fine.

can i be frank.............and dont take this the wrong way............but this all seems like alot of messing around for no reason , what are you doing it for? what have you tested your new settings with? sandra? everest? did your memory bandwidth increase? was the increase significant (im guessing it'll be the same ) what do you use your pc for mate?

and setting the timings tighter than the recommended / tested is a minefield and is bound to blue screen , you may get away with overclocking the ram and slackening the timings off a little but upping them?? throw as much voltage at that as you like it wont make it stable and why are you running at 2T? is it a limitation of your chipset?

where did you hear that syncronous mode (1:1) was faster than asynchronous? the only advantage is less heat and less power consumption , its not faster , it is however less hassle when overclocking as in asynchronous mode you may need to pump more voltage into the northbridge or fsb

you can run that cpu at at least 3 gig with very little effort and very little if any increase in the v core ,

You might find this article informative. All changes to settings are made in the BIOS, but not all BIOSes support changing of all parameters.

Take a look here, it's a beginners guide to over clocking, read through all the sections and you will have a better understanding of what overclocking is all about.

It seems like somebody suggests something and you go charging off in that direction not fully knowing or understanding what you are doing, or what it will achieve, so you are just going around in circles.

Read the article, and anything else you can find, then decide what you want to achieve by overclocking and stick to that.

Most machines these days run fine and well without overclocking, that started when we were running 300 Mhz CPU's or less, so it's less relevant today, (IMO).

Also be aware that overclocking will reduce the life of your PC.
Sorry to be so brutal but i think you need to take a step back, make a plan and stick to it.
Anyhoo, thats my two bobs worth, all the best with the overclocking.

T1 is faster ..... more bandwidth , but less stable , if your not overclocking T1 is the way forward , if you have no option to alter the timing in your advanced bios options then your chipset doesnt support it , some dont.

i'd be VERY surprised if he's able to run (1-T) without any other adjustments...

forget the RAM timings & settings for a minute, just concentrate on the (FSB) & the (VCORE), & the other settings will follow suit....once your happy with your CPU clocks, then you can play with RAM settings...

forget the RAM timings & settings for a minute, just concentrate on the (FSB) & the (VCORE), & the other settings will follow suit....once your happy with your CPU clocks, then you can play with RAM settings...

i know , if he overclocks , but he said he isnt overclocking , he said hes just running at stock thats why 1T will be far better , i mentioned if hes overclocking 1T wouldnt be an option , its too fiddly

i must be misreading this thread as i thought he just wanted to run a 1:1 ram:cpu ratio with no OC , i did wonder why everyone was offering overclocking advice he he :P

but TBH, there's no need to touch anything in the ''Advanced options'' of the BIOS if your not OCing, auto settings will be fine.

For stress/testing i start-->eset smart security full scan,start downloading programs and playing the wolfenstein 2009 in full specs 1080p etc (all at the same time) for 1 hour and everything works fine.
Then i just LOWER the voltages,RAM +0.30v,CPU 1.31875V
and again for stress/testing all the above.for 1 hour and everything works fine.
So the question is...
Is it good/better to set the lowest/minimum possible voltages when overclocking?

Less voltage means less heat, so yes, set it at the lowest it will run at, or just set it to the manufacturers recommended settings.
Either is good.
