I have new laptop that will not defrag properly. I am trying to clean it up so I can partition it and get it to boot faster . I have used O&O defrag with the option to check the disk for errors. It says it is running chdsk and after 61% it starts finding index errors and displays these.
I then run chkdsk myself and let it reboot as it wants C: to itself and it finds no errors at all. Run the defrag and the errors are there.
If I run the defrag without the check it runs for nearly an hour to about 40% and then jumps to 100% and all done and the drive is no better that it was. It says 7 files fragged with 28% fragmentation. It is really slowing down the boot times.
