Hi All
I am running Ultimate on a dual quad core Xeon machine, and have it pretty well cleaned up. Killed Superfetch, a ton of startup services, cleaned up, chldsk and defrag disk and same with reg. Boot up is fast as is shutdown, and overall performance is good.
About 30-60 seconds after boot-up, there is a lot of disk activity, and I cannot access anything, not even context menus on the task bar. I had process monitor up with disk read and writes, but nothing showed up, and the boot-up log looks OK.
At the end of the activity, I hear a sound similar to a USB device plug in.
I think this happened with an update (SP2?) or a performance run in Tuneup Utilities.
Any thoughts? I put System Restore on a once a day calander, and went thru the entire task scheduler and killed most everything. This was done before the odd behavior, and the machine has been running well for 8 months prior.
Thanks
Joe
