I was working with Windows Explorer when I realized that there was a folder named Desktop in the Images folder (that is, in Desktop/MyUserName/Images/Desktop). Unfortunately, I erased it.
Then, I realized that the orginal Desktop folder (the one in Desktop/MyUserName/Desktop) was empty.
When I tried to access the Desktop folder (the one in the Images folder) I received a message saying that I did not have the access rights to open it.
After checking the procedure to change the access rights in this forum, I tried to change my access rights to that folder, but to no avail.
Then, I read (in the same instructions to change access rights) that I could use a program called "Unlocker" to unlock the folder and, as a side bonus, change the access rights to it.
So, I downloaded the "Unlocker" program, and ran it. Sure, the Unlocker program said that the folder was locked by a process called "GoogleSearchFind.exe".
I used the "Unlocker" program to unlock the Desktop folder. Then the Desktop folder disappeared immediately from the Images Folder.
I still can use the search box in Windows Explorer to look for the files that I had in my misplaced Desktop folder and I see them listed in the search results. However, when I try to open them, I receive a message that says "The file doesn't exist".
I suppose that what happened was that I moved or erased inadvertently my Desktop folder. I also suppose that somehow Windows locked the folder to avoid its deletion. When I used the "Unlocker" program the deletion was completed.
However, I still can see the files in my missing folder using the Windows Explorer Search function.
Is there a way to recover my misplaced Desktop folder? Why I am still able to search for the missing files but I cannot open them? I have Windows Vista Home Premium Edition.
