SIW2, thanks for the input.
Maybe you could help me with something I just encountered.
I've read about improving pc performance by stopping programs and services from running at startup that don't need to run at startup.
So I've been exploring System Configuration Startup and Services, planning to deselect startup programs and services that aren't needed.
However, I just read in Vista Help and Support that System Configuration Startup is used to diagnose problems and to stop programs from running at Startup, do it through the Uninstall/Install program process, not System Configuration Startup.
When I check out the Uninstall/Change program window, however, there is no option to allow or prevent a program from running at Startup.
Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. Experts advise to stop Startup programs through System Configuration Startup, but Vista Help and Support says don't use System Configuration for this.
This conflicting info is a pain; I'm quitting for the day and will check tomorrow.
Thanks.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS BUT to stop services type services.msc in the searcg bar. to stop programs. to test use msconfig.
You are not going to gain much if anything and it depends greatly on how y ou use your machine. your biggest gain will come from memory.
the other problem with turning off apps, and services is 6 months from now when application X doesn't run y ou are not going to remember that you turned off service y today.
there is a site that explains this. its called black viper.
good luck and hope this helps
