Vista installation not showing second drive?
I am currently reinstalling vista64 and after I have entered the product code and selected custom install, it is only showing my C drive to install vista on to.
Why is it not showing my D drive?
Bios is showing the second HDD connected.
Hello Barso,
Could you please post back a
screenshot of your Disk Management (Control Panel "classic view") window to help us see how your drives are configured? This will help determine what may be wrong.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
It's this screen that's not showing the 2nd drive.

That's an example screen.
It's the same screen we all see when installing vista, I hope.
The problem is that mine is only showing one HDD and not the 2 that are connected.
BIOS confirms that 2 HDD's are connected.
I think brink was asking for a screenshot so he could see if the second drive; had a drive letter, was not virual, was formated, etc. Im not a mind reader though.

Barso,
Ken is correct. We need to see a screenshot of your
Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) window like below before we can proceed to offer any suggestions.

Barso,
I see no reason why it would not show up in the Vista installation window like that for selection. If you run the installation right now from within Vista running, do you have it listed when you get to the select drive screen? Just close the installation window after checking to cancel and back out of the installation.

This is my third time doing a reinstall trying to find why it will not do it.
I tried to setup a RAID0 configuration using the 2 1TB HDD's but I could not get it to work.
Si I have reverted back to my old setup.
And then this happened.
I assume that the D: drive is an internal drive as well. You might check to see how you have it setup in BIOS to see if it is listed AHCI SATA and not RAID or IDE.
I find it hard to believe that it shows up in your Computer window, but not in the Vista installation windows when you run the installation disc from within Vista and not at boot. Strange.

I have both drives in bios as IDE.
Is that wrong?
If they are SATA drives and IDE (wide ribbon data cable), then they should be set to something like SATA or AHCI SATA instead.

They are both sata drives.
What advantage does AHCI give me?
AHCI allows for advanced SATA operations if available and supported by the hard drives.
