My Gripe of the Day

First off, I really LOVE this forum. Great to exchange ideas and come up with solutions.

I would make the following requests to new users (of which I was recently one):

- Please do not start a post and then abandon it. If somebody takes the time to help you, it would be nice - and helpful to others - to know if their suggestions provided you with a workable solution. It's fine to say the solutions did not help you and you are going to try other avenues for help. But just to make one post and never respond is, at the very least, rude.

- Please do not start a post for a particular problem, then immediately create a brand new post of the same problem. Keeping everything consolidated benefits everyone on the forum.

- You do not have to give reputation points for a successful solution (although it would be nice), but a thank you to the people trying to help you is appreciated.

- Please be detailed in your initial posting. The more information you provide us, the better we can help you. Some of that information will come from your "system specs", which you should really fill out. It's nice to also know your level of expertise and comfort.

- Please review all forums to find which one best fits your situation - and post in that one only.

- Sygnus21 provides a nice post on how to ask for help

I agree with lemur and must add PLEASE fill out your systems specs. they are in the lower left corner of any post of yours and without them we are clueless as to what hardware you have. After all you want to be fixed right?

If you need help with them or have any question about them almost anyone who does this on a daily basis will be more than happy to help you.

You could tell us what they are but if you dont put them in your system specs you will be asked over and over again.

A reminder - It is considered good practice, & worth remembering, that established members who have received Rep points from other members should thank them also.

Im increasingly finding that users have visitor messages and PM's turned off. I have a user who rep'ed me and went to thank them. No visitor message, no PM, no way to say thanks.

Wonder why?

But, as a last resort, you could always thank them in the thread itself.

PS Thanks for mentioning about visitor messages and PMs being turned off. I'll have to check my User CP to make sure those links are enabled. :D
