Trash bin problem

This is weird. Every time I click on the trash bin icon and it opens up I get the Explorer is not working Error! Then it closes. Other times it hangs when I put the cursor on a file in the trash bin to return it to it's original folder. I have a file that I must retrieve from the trash bin. So please do not recommend reformatting. It is out of the question. The file has to be removed first.
I can't even touch any file without it hanging and restarting explorer. The only thing that seems to work is right clicking on the trash bin icon on the desktop and choosing empty bin. Otherwise it won't let me touch any files. Has anyone has this problem? Please. I need your help.

Thank you. It looks complicated but I will give it a try. BTw. I had to go into F8 screen mode in order to get the file out of the trash Bin. So I'm glad I got it out of there.
