Moving programs from PC to Laptop

I am sure this will be moved to a location that I know not where or why.

First of alll I am a novice with a computer. I want to move my programs from my Desktop computer to my new Laptop. I have a new in the package 8gb Flash Drive. How does one do it? any help out there? When the laptop is booted, it would be great for it to operate just like the Desktop. Thanks

You could use a program to ghost an image of the hard drive and then install that. Try Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image. They should be able to copy the programs across.
