Apparently the HTC Hermes 100/8525 is notorious for not connecting with Vista's Windows Mobile Device Center. There are posts all over the Internet in various forums, none with resolution. So I thought I'd post here and see if anyone is successfully connected using the Vista Home 32-bit.
I just spent the last hour with an HTC technician, and we tried everything. Nothing worked. He concluded it was my individual phone and wanted to do a cold reboot, which means I'd lose everything. I suggested that I try my second 8525 (which I'd just purchased and he wanted no part of it). It would have proven that the problem was with the phone's lack of compatibility, and he didn't want to go down that road.
The most common "solution" that's recommended is to take the phone, go to Start > Settings > Connection > USB to PC, and then uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality." Sadly that has worked with neither phone, though some have reported success using it.
Now here's the rub. The Windows Mobile Device Center shows No Connection on the splash screen, but when one goes to the Mobile Device Settings, it appears connected! Still, there's no way to gain access to the phone folders and files.
If anyone can shed light on the problem and offer a solution, I'd be happy to pass it on to the HTC folks. They're bound to know about this problem since it's all over the Internet. Also, if anyone has a system that works, please let me know.
Thanks!
