Desktop Disappeared. No Task Manager

Hi,

I ended a program in Kidzui that wasn't responding. After that my desktop disappeared. If I right click on the screen there is nothing. Ctl-Alt-Delete doesn't bring up task manager. I tried to system restore to two different points but nothing happened. System restore failed both times. I booted up in Safe Mode but couldn't see any icons there either. I can access all programs throught the Start Menu. If I type cmd.exe, explore.exe, regedit.exe in the Start Menu nothing comes up.

Need urgent help.

Hi,

I launched Kidzui and Task Manager has reappeared. But the desktop is still missing. All applications are functional. Can not start anything from Start Search.

Any guidance will be much appreciated.

Run the System File Checker:

Open up a cmd prompt by searching for cmd, then pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter, and accepting the UAC prompt. Then enter:

sfc /scannow

You might the original vista dvd too.

Problem Solved. I got a download that enables Task Manager which I found in another thread on the forum. I tried to download it to my desktop, but since desktop wasn't working, nothing showed up. I ran the file and Task Manager started. Then I killed the process explorer.exe and I restarted it by going to File, New Task and typing explorer.exe. Everything has been working fine since.
