dvd picture quality help (solved)

hey guys
i have recently been having trouble finding a compatible m-peg2 decoder for windows media player 11. that has been fixed, thankfully, but the picture quality is somewhat like a cartoon.

Hi Lil,

Did you try to open the same movie in the Windows Media Center? How's the quality of the picture in WMC, did you try any other movie to play in WMP? Perhaps it's the quality of the downloaded movie you've got.

i didn't download it i got the actual disc

and yes i have tried speed racer and garfield 2

i don't think media centre is included in home basic - i cant find it anywhere

Your output from the video card is already set up for it if you have the correct drivers. What I was talking about is your display settings. You might want to adjust that higher and see how it helps your video display.

The quality might be worse on integrated graphics. Try VLC. It has hardware acceleration. If you want the best quality buy a copy of PowerDvd, howver everything looks clearer with dedicated graphics.

when i installed the 7 rc a couple of months ago, my computer wass snappy and quick with the 2 ghz , 800mhz fsb processor, but now i have reinstalled windows, i seem to be having all these problems

I have got vlc, every time i have told it the source of the dvd, it just does nothing, so i restarted and tried again, and then at startup it told me there was an error.




on sevenforums someone told me media player might need reinstalling.
since i have reinstalled windows, it does not appear on add or remove programs.
i think reinstalling is the only option. any ideas?

although, i did use a dell reinstallation cd for home basic - would that have had the wrong drivers/configuration installed on my laptop?

i want confirmation of my next try
my sister has power dvd on her dell-could i just rip the contents of the folder onto a cd re-writable and just burn into program files? or would the registration of power dvd be invalid?
