I know this is a common problem, but hoping someone could help me! I was just following the instructions from an older thread (http://www.vistax64.com/vista-gener...older-you-need-permission-perform-action.html ) to get rid of a folder called "Pictures 8-12-09" on my Desktop. Vista gave me the dreaded 'You Need Permission To Perform This Action' message, so I tried using all the methods listed in the thread, one of which was
Unfortunately I have another folder on my Desktop called just "Pictures"... and typing "DEL Pictures 8-12-09" in the cmd.exe prompt deleted all the files in my "Pictures" folder (i.e. Pictures\*), and then tried to delete the subfolder "8-12-09" in "Pictures" (which, of course, doesn't exist).
At this point, I still have the "Pictures 8-12-09" folder on my Desktop, and all the pictures in my "Pictures" folder are gone!
Can someone help me get them back?

2. Start | type Cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe in the Programs list directly above | select Run As Admistrator
Navigate to the directory containing file you want to delete (using CD command).
Delete the file using DEL command.
Use EXIT command to close command window
