Error(s) found:
"Code 80070663 windows updater encountered an known error" when I
tried to update microsoft .net framework 3.5 family update (kb959209) x86 for windows vista 32 bit.

What should I do? I have tried to install this update many times but still getting same error. Thanks in advance for help.

You probably have, but you can double-check in Programs and Features.

Control Panel > Programs and Features.

I definitely did update .net framework 3.5 sp1. What to do next?

The next thing I'd check would be whether it will install in Safe Mode.

From what I've just been reading, SP1 includes everything in kb959209.
Just hide it and ignore it.

Sorry if I've wasted your time. What is being written about this update is contradictory. I have my updates set to download and let me install later,
and I forget others do it differently.

I have NET3.5 SP1 and Windows Update hasn't sent me this one.
For the time being I'll consider myself lucky.

DON'T FIX IT UNLESS IT'S BROKE

My computer runs Windows Power-shell
and PowerGui from "Quest" not "Windows."
I suspect that either of these OR both
may have altered 'Net Framework'.
Now I haven't used either for about month
so I don't want to make changes right now
till I find out if they still work.
I wonder if any one else uses the underlined
programs or some other that is interfering
and has trouble updating
KB959209 in vista premium?

try this ..it worked for me :

"Try install this hotfix from Microsoft Download Center An update for the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is available

If it also impossible you have to remove NET Framework 3.5 by using NET Framework Cleanup Tool Aaron Stebner's WebLog : .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide

and the install NET Framework 3.5 SP1 again and all hotfixes for this"


I got help from Flavius I believe, it was quite sometime ago.

Power GUI is too cumbersome for me but it's still on my
computer as it won't uninstall I just decided to suffer
the crap then shortly before Xmas I received the link
to this thread. Clearly there is some light in the tunnel.
I am going to try the hot fix from M Soft first by
downloading the files to my other computer and
saving them. Then try to install them as per instruction from
M Soft. The whole thing is my own stupidity as not enough
space was allotted on the computer to save the restore
point before Power GUI so I could get rid off it.

You CAN update in safe mode as long as you start safe mode with networking. To do that, restart your computer and while it is starting, repeatedly press the F8 key. A black dos-style screen will come up with several starting options. Click the one that states Safe Mode with Network. It will start in safe mode and you will still have internet capability. Hope this helps your issue.
