My external harddrive become raw for my computer

I have used the same external harddrive for over a year but suddenly my computer cant se what on it. It has the letter "N" but shows as raw. Its strange becours it works fine on XP pro and it did work fine on this comp before. Anyone have a clue?

You should copy your data from the external disc to XP first.
The external disc will likely need to be wiped and reformatted.

I second what Ardneh says. Save your data and reformat it. You seem to have trouble with the MFT - and that, to my knowledge, cannot be repaired.

I just lost my W-D external drive yesterday - and it displayed the same symptoms.
Take the advice above and backup immediately!!!

Run a hard drive diagnostic on the external drive (available from the external drive's manufacturer).
