This post is for all those who have Googled for hours trying to find out how to get PDF thumbnails on their Desktop and in Windows Explorer running Vista 64 bit. I found an easy solution. No registry editing...no Foxit...and none of the, uhh, "interesting" (to put it nicely) procedures that that I have read about.
For Desktop PDF thumbnails:
1. Run Acrobat Reader. In Reader, click File > Open and navigate to your Desktop using the Look In box. Move the slider to show all your Desktop icons.
2. Cancel out of Open and exit Reader.
3. Right click on your Desktop and select Refresh. VOILA! PDF thumbnails!
For PDF files in folders:
1. Proceed as in step 1 above EXCEPT navigate to the folder(s) containing your PDF file(s). If necessary, move the slider to show all your PDF files.
2. Proceed as in step 2 above.
3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folders(s) containing your PDF file(s).
4. Click Views and move the slider until you see PDF thumbnails. VOILA again!
In closing, I have just one comment. For those who say a 32 bit application can't create thumbnails when running in a 64 bit operating system... you think you know a great deal more than you don't understand. And that's alot!
