Disable Windows Defender in Windows Vista

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition X64 bit-SP2. I keep getting an error message upon PC startup...Windows Defender" Application failed to initialize 0X800106a. Problem caused this service to stop". I don't use Windows Defender at all and I would llike to either disable it or un-install it. I would appreciate any help you fellow Vistaer's could render. Thanks...:)
