Solved Deleted User Account and files HELP

I have read the messages that say that if you delete a user account you cannot get the files back... however I have seen some posts elsewhere that say it is possible.

I deleted the user account, then realized that the files were not sent to the recycle bin. I also can see the hidden file, its size, and the name of the file but the warning states it cannot be opened because the path has been changed or altered. I still see that the user has many files, and I do not seem to have gained any disk space...is it still possible to get these back.

I know when police agencies are searching for files on the computer they have software that recovers a lot of evidence...is there any out there that I can use?

Hello Dionnisus, and welcome to Vista Forums.

When you delete a user account in Vista from the the Control Panel (User Accounts), the C:\User\(user name) folder will still be left behind as a backup in case you need files from it still. If you do not want it, you can safely delete that folder after deleting the account from the Control Panel.

what if I restored it already because I thought that it would get those files back and it did not..can I restore it to the point of original deletion? that is to the time I first deleted the User name?

plus I did not delet it thorugh the control panel, I did it under User Profile

I know I used a Data Recovery Software once called "Recover My Files.

yeah, I know... very original! It did the job though ;)

Did you still have the C:\User\(user name) folder for that account? If you do, then the user folder files should be in that folder.

If not, then you can use the program suggested by AstaLaVista, or Recuva, or ShadowExplorer to try and recover the files.

thanks... I do still have that folder under user and the name. I can see the file, se the size, but it says that the path has been changed or moved. As we speak I am using the software that "Alta Vista " suggested and if that does not work, then I will check a few others. THANKS everyone

FYI: I did a restore about 7 times going back and forth looking for the files. I knew they were there, even went into the regedit commands to get them, but I am not that good so...downloaded the Revocermyfiles software for free, then found every file for which I was looking...In this case this work for me even after I had deleted the user account through user profile. Thanks...

After I found the files, I did have to pay for the license key, $70, but it was worth it!

Sorry if I'm being a nuisanceby posting this here, But I have also deleted an account from my computer and had thought that I put all my work, music, ect ect files onto my external hard drive but it looks like I never did...

So I'm trying to get the files from that deleted account back so I can get my work in on time can someone give me a detailed way of getting them back (or getting the account back to)?

You might try the same free programs Recuva or ShadowExplorer to try and recover the files with.
