Laptop MAJOR heat issue's

Lost in my own World
Power User
As you can see my wife's laptop is having major heat issue's that is low for the temps lately, had it off for over two hours rebooted and it was at 120 it has been sitting around 150 - 180 lately, not sure what it normally sits at but my desktop sit around 90.

I have sprayed out the fan ports, removed the pcmia slot holder, going to check the bios in a min for the auto speed fan setting (but i can't see the rpm of the fan anyway).

ok checked the bios no settings in there for the fan.

any other ideas?

Thats around the 70C mark, not bad for a laptop i would have thought. If your concerned about it get a laptop cooler, but i would say that temp is not too toasty lol.:)

They tend to hover around the 60C to 65C mark, although a mate of mine has had one running at 75C to 80C for about 18 months. Keeps him warm in the winter lol. I suppose the ambient temp could have a lot to do with it.

thought maybe there was some thing wrong.

is there no fan on the cpu or what?

also why does speedfan say nothing about the fan / fans for the laptop? just not supported by the mobo or what?

I noticed that, maybe they (SpeedFan) dont support them, may be worth looking in to though. Can you hear the fan working ?, it must be or you would have been dialing 911 by now.

yeah i can hear the fan and can feel it exhausting heat out the back of the laptop.

You would need to check, but from memory i think the max safe temp is around 85C +/- 5C

I believe laptop users can't use fan speed or any other type of fan control is because the fan is linked to the acpi, not the GPU or CPU temp settings.

I have a 2.2ghz dual core amd processor and It use to give me a heart attack, but now the temps don't scare me as much.
pic she can get pretty toasty, maxed at 90c once

i know they make the laptop cpu's to run in a hotter enviroment, but it still seems hot.

I bought my mom a 35$ targus dual 90mm fan laptop dock and it got her toshiba, AMD turion X2-64 from 62c idle to 51c-48c idle.

nope normal idle load.

a docking station would be the first pic, i think what he meant to say was a cooling pad which is the second pic.
