Forgotten Vista Logon Password

Hi there,

Im new to computers and I got given a laptop running Vista Home Basic. I forgot the password at logon and now the laptop doesnt allow me to go any further than the Password input page at start-up. Is there any way I can bypass the password bit?

Ive tried starting up in safe mode, all that does is present me with the same problem. I did notice the bios screen states the password enabler is set to disabled. Does that mean anything? How do i enable it?

Thanks in advance..sory i cant be more technical...i am only a beginner so I thought id go to the experts!

If you have tried all of that - I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Did you try Method 3?

How do you mean , nothing happened? Did the cd you burned from the download not boot?

Not entirely sure what you mean about the Bios screen - they are all different.

There is an option to set a password to stop unauthorised access to the Bios options - that is different from the password at logon into Windows.

Hi guys, many thanks for helping me, appreciate it.

SIW2, I burned the 'bootable' disc (as per Method 3) and I placed it in the cd-rom drive...nothing happened, no boot, nothing. The bios password is ok...i made a mistake there, sorry.

You will need to have the CD/DVD drive listed first in the boot order in the BIOS settings to be able to "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD.".

my boot priority order is:

1. IDE 0: Hitachi HTS542580K9SA00
2. IDE 1: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-T40N
3. USB FDD:
4. Network Boot : MBA v10.0.9 Slot 0500
5. USB HDD:
6. USB CDROM:

So to make it boot from a cd which do I use and where do I place it on the list? Also the question applys to a USB key. I know it sounds obvious (the USB CDROM)but I dont want to muck it up, being a beginner :o

in the bios you need to set the cd/dvd as the first boot device

so it should look like this

1. IDE 1: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-T40N
2. IDE 0: Hitachi HTS542580K9SA00
3. USB FDD:
4. Network Boot : MBA v10.0.9 Slot 0500
5. USB HDD:
6. USB CDROM:
