I am the go-to guy (IT ADMIN) for all PC/network problems at work so this is how I became introduced to this laptop. The laptop is a gateway W6501 and is an employee husband’s laptop (yea I know, what where you thinking). Here is the problem, when booting the laptop starts fine show the little Microsoft cyber eye thing. The hard drive light flashes normally the arrow appears and nothing. Black screen, moveable arrow and nothing else happens (HD light flashes once and sits there until forced pwr down).
Safe mode works normal, restore does not fix it, boot fix finds no errors, chkdsk finds no HD errors. McAfee virus has no signs of virus and in safe mode system log does not show any issues that could have caused this problem. I tried hooking a monitor to the video out, tried low res boot and I tried the FN/LCD to move to external monitor. I even removed several programs including MacAfee that could cause such an issue. I would just restore to factory but I hate to do that and lose all their info.
