Solved Upgrade Vista HP X86 to Vista Ultimate X64 Question.

hey peps is there any way i can upgrade my wifes laptop from Vista HP X86 to Vista Ultimate X64 with out doing a clean install?

or do i have to do a clean install cause of the KERNAL?

would really not want to do a clean install if i do not have to to much crap on here laptop to re-install would take 8+ hours to do.

i know i can upgrade to X86 version of Vista Ultimate but would like to have it be a X64 version if i could.

No, there's no any way around. Tomorrow is Saturday, guess you will have plenty of time to do clean install. :) Imagine how fast the clean and new OS will run.

another thing worth mentioning mate , as its a laptop it may have "custom" parts , made by manufacturers specifically for that brand of laptop , in some cases if the laptop manufacturer dont have 64 bit drivers for the hardware your not gonna get them anywhere else , making your laptop a bit useless :p

so......it may be a waste of time upgrading to 64 bit anyway ,

why does yuor wife want Ultimate? Tell her its a waste of time , my wife believes anything i tell her when it comes to computers ;)

Come on, you can do it. It's max three hour job, maybe four. Clean install is the best, don't upgrade. ;)

not when there is over 45gigs of pics and over 100gigs of music.

if i lost those she would kill me.

at the mere mention of the words "operating system" "hard drive" "registry" or anything like that she gets that "faraway stare" in her eyes and immediately looses all interest in anything im saying , she is vey easy to baboozle bless her :p

As long as it works and facebook works she is mostly happy , i just look at it once a week , uninstall all the rubbish she has put on it during the week (she never notices) and skim around any questions she might have with "tech babble" ;)
