So I recently was trying to switch my computer to a dual boot system and long story short, a disk utility program formatted the wrong partition on my hard drive, the partition with my Vista OS (Home Premium 32bit). I managed to recover nearly all the files, but had to reinstall Vista anyway. I didn't have a copy of my product key, which I figured wouldn't be an issue because I have all of my previous Vista files.
I attempted to copy my old Vista files over the new files, but encountered the lack of permission problem. I attempted to change ownership to change permission, but it wouldn't allow me to take ownership of many of the Vista files.
So basically I have 25 days left to either:
a) Find a way to take ownership of the new files and replace them with the old files
or
b) Locate the file with the product key in it, and re-enter the key.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
