Any way to uninstall WMP11?

Sorry disruptor108,
There is currently no way to uninstall it. Vista considers WMP a integrated system program and deleting it would just cause Vista to rebuild it and put it back on automatically. However, you can just ignore it and even install another player of your choice and set it as the default player instead.

Well, can you disable WMP from opening by default?
For example, I have Media Player Classic set to play .avi's by default (in Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations), but whenever I double click on an .avi WMP will open and start playing it. Even when I go to "Open with..." and select MPC to play the .avi it will STILL use WMP player.
The only way for this to work properly is to open MPC and just open the file from in there. This is slightly annoying though.
Any suggestions?

Well, if MPC is listed in the Default Programs area then see if you can set every default on for it and uncheck every default for WMP under the Choose defaults for this program. Also, when you are doing the Open with, are you selecting always open with this program? I don't know if MPC is fully Vista compatible or not, so this may be a issue if it isn't.

I tried changing all of those settings...it didn't change anything.
If you look at the above picture, everything appears to be looking good. However, when you try to open this file...WMP will always open it, even though it blatantly says Media Player Classic opens it. I might just change to VLC and see if that's any better...

Vista is a finiky beast at times. I don't know why it's still opening it with WMP when you clearly have it set for WPC. Only guess is that Vista dosn't like WPC. Maybe VLC will do better. Just make sure they say they are fully compatible with your Vista type (32 or 64 bit).
