Power & screensaver options

Got my first laptop so I'm not familiar with how the power options will affect the operation. Running Vista Home Premium 64bit.

1. If I'm downloading a long Microsoft update or maybe a large program file, if the sleep mode kicks in, will the download be stopped?

2. Is there a way to set up two desktop icons as follows?
.... a) One turns off all power options and screen saver.
.... b) Other turns them back on.

First Q: Yes. You’ll want to make sure that your computer does not go to sleep while downloading these large updates or files.

Second Q: I’m not incredibly adept at this sort of question, but I’d assume you could write an executable file/program that would do this for you. However, I’m not an expert here.

Thanks for your reply. Guess I'll have to manually disable sleep mode when downloading large updates or programs until I find the answer to question-2.
