Hi I have such a dilema! I need help ASAP! I am a dim wit and I kept getting annoyed that I my laptop (which my brother set up) had 2 accounts. I was initially on the guest account and had to keep entering his password to add programmes etc.
So I logged into his account and changed the guest account into the administrator account. Then I did something silly and made his account into the standard account.
Then I changed my mind and thought, I'd turn off the guest account and keep just his account as the main one. Anyway now I have turned it off and I am stuck with his account as a standard account and I cant turn the guest account back on as I have realised I left some files on there I needed! DOH! I have tried to access the guest account files and it says I do not have permission!
I'm a little confused (which isn't difficult for me), did you not say that you changed your Guest Account to an Administrator Account so therefore you should have adequate permission to retrieve your files I would of thought.
May I suggest you click onto the Vista Tutorials link at the top of Vista Forums here and go to the User Accounts section which should provide you with the information you will need to rectify your little dilemna.

Yes I did change my guest account to administrator, but I'm silly, cos I then turned it off! Like deactivated it, as I decided not to have a guest account and just keep my brothers account which i changed to a standard account... now it doesnt allow me to activate it again (to access some files) and when I try, nothing happens, it allows me to click the button to activate it but it doesn't. I just want to get back into the guest account. I try and access the account throught users in the c drive but it says i dont have administration access.
Hello Kungfu Princess, and welcome to Vista Forums.
You might see if you are able to boot into Safe Mode to the built-in Administrator account since you now do not have a normal administrator account. While logged on to the built-in Administrator, see if you can then change the user account type for the user you want back to the administrator type of account.
OH MY GOSH! I just did that! I read the links at the bottom of this page about a guy who needed help and they recommended safe mode too, so I gave it a try and I got it working!
I came back to this link to say I have it working again and found your response!
Thank u so much for both of yours time! This forum is well cool. Ive never had to ever ask for help but u guys are well intelligent!
