Could Anyone Advise Me? I Need To Reinstall Vista HP...

Hello folks!

I have an Acer Aspire 6930G with Vista preinstalled. It didn't come with a disc, so how do I go about wiping the slate clean and starting over? I'm new to this, but there's so many bugs in my laptop that I feel it's the only thing to do.

Many thanks for your help!

Charleyvonne, welcome!

You need to get a Vista disk, either from a friend or from M$. I am not sure if M$ will send you a disk, but its worth looking into... Give them a call. Please let us know if they will send you one (if you do call).

Your other option is to use either the Restore Disk that came with the computer, or the Restore Partition that is ON the hard drive. That will restore it to factory defaults, and you can go from there.

Hello Charley, and welcome to Vista Forums.

According to Acer, you should be able to:
  • Press Alt+F10 during boot to start Acer eRecovery Management
  • Select Restore system to factory default.
  • Follow rest of onscreen instructions to reinstall Vista back to a factory default state.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

In addition to Shawn's suggestion, you can use eRecovery Management as well to do a Factory state recovery.
eRecovery Management-> Restore(at the bottom next to burn disc)
then you can select factory restore at the next window. HTH.

Hey folks,

Wow, thanks very much for the information there! So, if I did the whole system restore thing you speak of, will it erase everything from my system and restore it back to how it was when I first switched it on after taking the tape off it?

I'd like to think that they would send me a disc, but I can only invisage there being a hefty price to pay, as you still find it difficult to get XP at much less than the price it's always been, even after all these years!

Thankyou again for all your help, when I get this done, I'll try to get on here and let you know how it went, this is my only window to the world, so I'll e-mail myself the link or something so I can find it again!

All the best!

Yes, selecting the Restore system to factory default option will format your computer and return it to like the day when you first got it.

Look around at the options in the Acer eRecovery Management. There should be an option in there somewere to allow you to create a set of recovery discs. :)

Thankyou! I've got some dvds now, so I just started doing a backup now. There is indeed an option to restore to default in there too, I couldn't find eBackup at first so I just searched for it in the start menu and it popped up!

Many thanks people, I'll keep you posted!

My Computer

Hello again, I've just tried to restore my system, but it's showing the icon faded out in the eRecovery Management window, does anyone know why? I haven't created a backup on disc because it won't complete, in fact, it won't even start! I've waited for over an hour and it stays on 0% completed. When I load the program, I get an error message: Unhandled exception has occurred in your application... Requested service not found. Then it locks up my DVD drive and it won't open it til I restart the machine. I've tried the button and telling it to eject in my computer but nothing happens, only another error: An error occurred while ejecting 'BD-ROM Drive F'. I need this clean for tomorrow, with no more bloody glitches and errors in it, I really am starting to think seriously about Apple replacing Microsoft in my computing life! Many thanks all!

Make sure you backup to either DVDs or to another drive....

Hey! Yea, well I've got a stack of DVD's, but it won't let me do a backup, it's being really pants! I think I'm gonna give it up as a bad choice of workstation and get myself a Mac. Thanks!
