Runtime Error for ATT Comm Manager

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. This is a first time post so let me know if I am missing any crucial info.

I have been having a problem launching my communication manager for my Sierra Wireless air card. The error is Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error!
Program C:|Program Files (x86) AT&T\CommunicationManager|ATTCM.exe

This app has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the support team ...

Steps I took:

Uninstalled ATT software and reinstalled twice (second time called ATT support and they could not solve the problem). I still get the runtime error when I try to launch the application.

I spoke to Dell technical support who had me run a few tests checking on my Chipset drivers (?) but with no luck. They told me I needed to run a PC restore which I really only want to do as a last resort.

If there is any help or suggestions out there I would be most grateful.

ATTCM.exe is crashing and technically it's ATT's responsibility to tell you why. If there's something about your machine that's making their app crash, OK, but they should be able to tell you what that is without you having to go grey through trial-and-error troubleshooting.

If AT&T support "could not solve the problem", that simply means they didn't assign sufficient expertise on to your issue. Support generally falls into several broad categories including: the trial-and-error folk (>99% of all support), and the few senior engineers who can actually troubleshoot and debug something new they may not have seen before. Your aim is to get through to someone in the latter category in AT&T :)

Otherwise, it's the trial-and-error merry-go-round for you...

What if you try it as a different user?

How about if you update the NIC driver first?

Boot to [safe mode + net] and try it from there?

SFC /SCANNOW and then try again?

Reapply Vista SP1 and then try again?

Hi Snowyaloha:

I have the exact same problem, and both ATT and H.P. have told me it is the other's problem.

Do you have any update on your fix before I use this computer for my boat anchor?
