Hello All,
Is there a way to set up a task or something to turn on my laptop/tower at a pre determined time?

I want to turn on the laptop (vista ) or tower ( XP ) and start a program to begin recording a radio show.

I have a shortcut that shuts down my machines at a set
time frame eg: 1hr-30mins-1min-8hrs...etc see attached app

thanks in advance as usual,

Carmine

Hi Carmine, This will depend on your system.

A lot of current systems have an option in the BIOS to "wake on RTC" or real time clock.

if you have this functionality then it would be a case of how far you need to log into windows to action the recording.

If the machine needs to log in and start your PVR software then you would need to have an auto login rather than password protected. and the software set to also auto start.

Just to mention two additional options to explore:

1) If actual shutdown isnt a hard requirement and the machine can be left in sleep mode instead, then the Task Scheduler "wake the computer to run this task" option (or whatever it's actually called!) may be helpful.

2) Wake-On-LAN (WOL).
