You will not see any gain with your RAM since you only have 1 GB of RAM. You would need to have 4GB or more to see a gain with your RAM using 64-bit instead.
I would say that if you have a 64-bit CPU, all of your devices have 64-bit drivers available, and your software will support and run in 64-bit (most do, but some utility programs may not), then you could see a small gain of performance using the 64-bit version.
so is it worth doing a 32-bit emulation on a laptop ?? i would like better memory management to be honest, vista home premium 32 keep popping up message to say memory low !! grr
That issue would not change by going to a 64-bit OS.
A low memory error is usually associated to your page file running out of space. Check to make sure that the virtual page file is set as System managed. If it is, then you may need to increase it's size, or if your hard drive is low on free space, free some some up to help allow Vista to use a larger page file.
Wow, 100GB!! Was that the size of the page file when it was managed by the system?
Normally you would want to have 2 to 3 times the amount of installed RAM for your page file. You would then add more if you are getting out of memory errors.
With only 1GB of RAM, you would not benefit by running a 64-bit OS. You need more memory. I suggest a minimum of 4GB (if your laptop can take it), otherwise you would be better of sticking with 32-bit.
