Icons not displaying correctly

ok i dont know if I'm in the correct place or not, but i believe I'm having a registry issue. Many of the pictures or icon on my computer show as a white box with a red square, green circle, and a black triangle instead of displaying the picture. This problem is happening in many different programs. Please help!!

these are the icons i am getting. Many other programs are doing the same thing. I tried the rebuild of the cashe and the other solution and nothing. Thanks so much for your help i appreciate it.
