So I'd purchase my copy of Vista Ultimate a while ago, as all of you now, it comes with both x32 & x64 versions of it.
I was dual booting with XP & x64 at first (first install), then I decided to test the x32 on my kids PC but uninstalled it before 24 hrs and decided to go with XP and just add some new Vista themes for the eye candy look.
I'd purchase a new Motherboard and a new HDD so I installed x64 yet again but, I did not uninstalled the one I had on the old drive because I wanted to make sure this new installation was going to work first (kept the other install (dual boot) as back up). Well, it turned out that my board died and I had to RMA it.
New board comes in yesterday, I install everything again, fire up my new x64 install, everything went smoothly (thank God) and all of a sudden, it tells me that it can not activate via internet, to try it over the phone. Fine, I get on the phone, guy from India with a worse accent than mine comes up, ask me a few question, explain to him what I just explained above, tells me to hang up for a couple of minutes, comes back and start to read some numbers to insert in the boxes, midway I get a popup that something is wrong with the numbers and I have the wrong ID, I let him know and he puts me back on hold, comes back yet again and he reverts the numbers and we continue, we get to the last box and after hitting next, I get the same pop up message.
He apologizes and tells me that he needs to send me to tech to finish activating, waiting waiting, tech comes on and asks me question, I repeat to him what I have done with my installations, puts me on hold, comes back to tell me that my warranty has expired and since I am having a technical problem, the only way for them to help me is if I pay 59.95 an hour or something to that nature, I flipped when I heard "Need to Pay" so I didn't hear the rest of his speech.
Now I am baffled, miffed and wanting to kill someone because I am sure that Hackers and Pirates don't get or need to go through this abuse to activate something MS related, yet, us paying customers have to endure being treated like dogs. I am sure that in the back of their minds, I am trying to do something illegal and this is their way of getting back to me for it but, I even told him that I would be glad to take pictures of my 2 DVD's and the Product ID to prove I'd purchase the thing.
He said to go to microsoft.com to see if I could troubleshoot the problem on my own but, I was to tired already and decided to go to bed to cool off and start fresh tonight when I get home.
My friend says that it could be because my date or time are wrong on my new install but I remember him going to the Bios and changing that, although, I couldn't verify that.
Sorry for the rant, I guess I am still a little miffed... how or what else can I try before my 14 days that remained are over and I am out of my Vista x64 OS.
Thanks folks
P.S.: I tried searching for this problem a few times but couldn't find anything so, sorry if this has been posted multiple times.
