Failure to Update and Shutdown Properly

I need help, my computer is a Toshiba Satellite, and it will not install updates or shutdown properly. When I try to shut it down properly it says configuring updates I left it like this for a couple of hours and it made no difference. I am writing this thread on it now, and it runs perfectly other than the updates. It has flashed me a Blue Screen twice, and has never had this problem before. I need to know any Solutions before I completely wipe this partition and install XP. any solutions??

Hello Ghost, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If it has not been to long a go, you might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before this problem may fix it for you.

Yea thats exactly what I thought, I restored it from a previous restore point which was 3/5/09, and then booted normally, it said failure to load and it shut down. The Main problem is the Updating it has 4 important updates. When it automatically starts it stays at 0%. I left it like that for a day, when I came back it was still at 0%

You might see if you can boot in to the Avanced Boot Options screen and select the "Last Known Good Cofiguration" option to see if that may help, or try a Startup Repair.

However, I would say it may be time for a clean reinstall. The updates sounds like that may have been interrupted and caused Vista to get corrupted.

I think I may try a clean install I think I corrupted it because it died before it was finished installing them all so i'll wipe it and do a clean install thanks you're a big help I was about to downgrade to XP thanks for saving it :D

You're welcome Ghost. I hope this one goes smoother for you. I find that when there are a few Windows Updates available that require restarts, it usually is better to only install a couple at a time to avoid them conflicting with each other.
