After an automatic update, my account(the only one on the computer) failed the logon and i couldn't get on the computer. My dad tried to help me. We tried to find out how to fix it and the user turned out to be bad so the computer wanted us to delete the account. The copy to feature to back up the files wouldn't work. I told my dad not to delete the account because we still had access to the hard drive and files but he deleted it anyway. It created a new user with the same name but none of the files were there. We tried to do a system restore from before the update but the files still weren't there and we got an error message saying the restore failed and the files were unchanged. Is there any way to get my files back that were saved under the account I need them. I use 64-bit.
Hello UltimateHedgehog, and welcome to Vista Forums.
Unfortunately, a System Restore will not affect user files. It's only for system files and instead.
You might check to see if you have a C:\Users\(user name) folder with the old user account name still there. If your Dad only deleted the old user account from within User Accounts in the Control Panel, then it may still be there to copy over to the new account.
Since you have Vista Ultimate, you might also see if you can use Previous Versions with the C:\Users folder to see the old user name folder or files can be restored.
