Explorer.exe apphang b1

windows explorer (not internet explorer) will stop responding as soon as I get past the logon screen and to the desktop. It will also stop responding at random points when I open things or right click on things.

Hello GustofWind, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before this problem to see if it can fix it.

Brink explorer.exe is some thing to do with the dispaly of icons and the taskbar i believe if that process is non functional then the system will not display any icons or taskbar......!!!
Is there any way to reinstall windows explorer.exe if there is a problem with that application....

There is no way to reinstall explorer.exe but you can run it again:
Go to C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE

Hello Jerin,

If a simple restart doesn't clear the problem, then you can do a System Restore or run a sfc/ scannow command to see if you can repair the explorer.exe file since it is a system file.

If you mean the sfc/ scannow command, then it is in a elevated command prompt. See the link for the full instructions on how though.

I have tried sfc scannow and it didn't work. i have also tried the system restore and even a system recovery, but to no avail. The problem reports don't list a cause that I know how to solve. It's all alpha-numeric gibberish to me.

Well, other than a clean reinstall, you can see if doing a Repair install can help fix this.
