Moving a hard drive with partitions

Just wanting to clarify something:

If I have a hard drive in my PC, and have partitioned it and then I want to move this hard drive on to a new computer, will the partitions stay or will I need to re-partition the hard drive in the new PC?

I just did exactly that, I partitioned and formatted a HDD in the old HP system using Vista and then moved a bunch of "stuff" to one of the partitions and then moved the HDD to the new build and installed Vista 64-bit to it and I didn't even have permission problems with it.


Moving an OS will probably cause problems though!

Yeah, I have done this multiple times as well. Because all the partition and info is kept on the HDD, then you could move it to anything and keep all that info! Nice isn't it? Besides, think of all the problems with flash drives and portable HDD's if it didnt!!!!

Yea I was pretty sure all the information was kept on the hard drive, but I was also thinking that possibly it's all kept on the computer you made the partition on, so moving computers would mess the partitions up, but thanks for further clarifying it :)
