Solved Desktop Wallpaper Display Problem

Hi there,

I'm trying to change the way a wallpaper is displayed on the desktop (i.e. Stretch, Tile, Centred) but I can't. The wallpaper is always displayed stretched out and I can't change it to be tiled or centred.

The way I'm doing this (to no avail) is obviously to right-click the desktop, then choose "Personalize", then click on "Desktop Background", then click one of the three radio buttons at the bottom (in this case, either of the two on the right), then click "OK".

Can anyone please help, this is extremely frustrating!

Hello Cancerous, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If the image that you are using is to large or small in size, then it may not display properly. Test by getting or resizing a copy of the image to something that is closer to your screen resolution may work better for you.

Three Buttons. i've got more:sarc:.
I always make sure the picture I am setting as the desktop background, isn't pixelated (that drives me nuts) and is the size or bigger than the resolution of your screen, If The picture is to big then I click "Crop to fit screen". which works very well

Ok, I figured it out...

The problem was that I was trying to set JPEGs and PNGs saved in my computer as wallpapers, and apparently, they can only be displayed stretched out.

What I did was to simply upload that very same JPEG/PNG on the web, then right click it and set it as a desktop wallpaper... only then was I able to control the way it's displayed.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that in the begining but I had no idea it would make a difference... now I know.

Anyways, thanks for your help!

p.s. Fastboy42, Could it be that you have 5 buttons instead of 3 because your version of Vista is professional as opposed to Home?

Hi all - I was just browsing through here looking for answers to my question about the desktop background picture positioning options. I saw the post by Fastboy42, and was curious how he got 5 radio buttons when his profile information says he's running Vista Home Premium. I saw Brink's follow-up to that. I am running Vista Ultimate x64 on one laptop, and (after I upgraded to Ultimate last year) was ecstatic about the crop-to-fit option that appeared for me. My issue is this, I just bought a new laptop, with Vista Home Premium, because I have the Ultimate upgrade disk...and my disk doesn't work now, because it's pre-SP1. So, I only have the 3 desktop background options. I was kinda hoping that Fastboy42 had found a way to enable the other two... :cool:

Welcome to the vista forums:party:.That is actually very observant of you. The only problem is when I took that snapshot I believe I had either Vista Ultimate or Business installed on my laptop (Which I have just downgraded to home premium).I never realised that the different vista's have different amounts of those options,so I just had to have a peek at my options on my Vista Home Premium. I took this snapshot: Capture.JPG
And looking at that I don't have my beloved Crop to fit button. I will have a look to see if I can enable those buttons again.

Thanks a million! I LOVE that button too, this is really stupid I know, but it was my favorite aspect of Ultimate over Home (the Dreamscene ability to use movies for your desktop was cool too, but I got tired of that)...other than that, I don't think I use most of the things that Ultimate supposedly does better than Home. Let me know if you figure it out, I'll keep my fingers crossed!
