Solved Computer wakes up from sleep

When I enter sleep mode my computer goes into sleep mode but immediately comes out of it again. This is both before I followed the steps in this tutorial and also after I have setup normal sleep as explained in this tutorial.

Can anyone help please.

Thank you Shawn.

Yes, I had already checked through the tutorial and changed to the recommendations for normal sleep mode. All other items in there checked out OK. The problem was the same before and after this.

When the computer wakes right back up, what does STEP FOUR at that link reports as waking up the computer?

Also what does STEP FIVE show as able to wake your computer?

It looks like it may be your mouse that is waking up the computer.

As a test, uncheck the "Allow to wake computer" option for the Mouse in Device Manager (STEP SIX), then see if the computer will still wakeup.

I unchecked the "Allow this device to wake the computer" which was checked.

"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was there but greyed out,

After this the problem unfortunately still remains.

You could try 'Control Panel - System and Maintenance - Performance Information and Tools - Advanced tools' and check if there is a message in top of that window indicating any driver interfering with sleep mode. Hope it is available in Home Premium. While you are there, you could generate a System Health Report.

I have also followed this procedure with "HID Keyboard Device" and "High Definition Audio Controller" and it also made no change.

Hi David,

Try the following:

Open an Enhanced Command Window. Click on the Start Orb, type cmd into the search box and press Ctrl, Shift and Enter/Return simultaneously. Provide Administrative Credentials when prompted.
At the prompt, type powercfg - devicequery wake_armed. On my system, this gives the following result (yours will be different):
Make a careful note of what is displayed, and then, at the command prompt, type powercfg -devicedisablewake <devicename> where <devicename> is the name of one of the devices listed above (yours, not mine). For example, to disable the setting for the mouse, the command is as follows:
To check that the device has been disabled for wake-up purposes, repeat the command powercfg - devicequery wake_armed. For this example, this yields:
You will need to repeat steps 3 & 4 for each device listed.
Should you need to enable a device for wake-up purposes, the syntax is as follows:

In fact this seems to be making the same changes as I was earlier making in "Device Manager"

Hi David,

The only other thing that I can think of is that you disable those functions in your BIOS. You will need to refer to your motherboard manual for details on how to do this. Here are the relevant sections from my motherboard manual to show what I mean (yours will, undoubtedly, be slightly different but the same principle will apply).

Do you have anything else that is connected via the USB port? From your Last Wake report, it may be something that is connected by USB doing this. If so, test by unplugging the items one by one before putting the computer to sleep to see if that helps.

Problem solved. Thank you very much!

It was the UPS connection to an APC UPS. Remove that and sleep works as it should.

I'm happy to hear that you found the culprit. You might reference any settings for the UPS battery device to see if there may be a setting somewhere that is affecting this.

Hey i have the same problem David had and i followed every instructions you guys advice him to do but same way it didnt work for him it didnt work for me; however i tried to follow what David said about the "UPS connection to an APC UPS" but i just dont know how to remove it like David said. Can someone give me details of how to do it please!?

Hello Ace, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I believe it is the data cable connection from the APC UPS (phone line looking connector) to the back of the computer (usually USB).
