I own an HP Pavilion dv9000 that I purchased a little over a year ago. About maybe 6 months ago, my secondary hard drive basically disappeared; it wasn't recognized in Vista or in the BIOS. I noticed that upon rebooting, the drive would click and determined this to be a head failure. Around the same time, I also started having issues with my primary hard disk. When I reboot, I often receive an "Operating System not found" error. Having checked the boot order, I can see that when this happens the hard disk is not recognized (I only see the DVD drive in the list of bootable devices). After anywhere between 1 and 15 more reboots, the hard disk will eventually be recognized, and Vista will boot up as normal.
My question is: What could cause the disk to be recognized sometimes and not others? Is there any potential relation between my secondary hard disk failure and this issue (seeing as they both issues seemed to arise at the same time)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
