To build a quiet desktop.

Over the years I used to build my machines and enjoy the ridiculous amount of money I saved by creating my own monstrosity.

Then one day it happened, I had a machine that was the last of the agp line. A dinosaur, but Nvidia released the 7800 so I could lengthen the life of that machine.

The problem was, it was so LOUD!

All of my friends who have been building systems since then have these machines that sound like wind tunnels. So I switched to laptops, they are quiet portable ,and oh so not upgradeable .

So my question to you all is:
1) I would like to make a desktop that is quiet but can still play games(not every game at 60fps but like 20-25fps). Is it possible ? I'm talking laptop quiet here. If you can think of some components list them I will check them out. (also I will be using solid state drives to bring the noise down even further)

2) Are there video cards still sold these days that can operate without fans ? Last ones I remember were the 7100 7300s. This is not a requirement for a quiet system I was just wondering if they are even around anymore

P.S. I am not interested in 100 posts of OMGZORZ 20fps is UNPLAYABLE !!!!!

A water cooled system will solve all your problems about sound issues.

Take a look at Silentpcreview.com - forums as well. They mean business, like undervolting etc. but Im sure you can find some info on silent but capable of more than Office setups.
