I have a brand new laptop running Windows Vista 64 Bit SP1. I have been getting a BSOD after I install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. This last time I tried it, I had reinstalled dell to the factory settings and the first thing I did was install .NET. It does the install, reboots and I get the message:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Stop: 0x0000000A (0x00000000656C6473, 0x000000000000000C, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF80001AAB3B3)
I have tried Dell customer support to no avail. I have googled all over the place, but I'm really stuck. I really need this resolved because I am taking classes for SQL Server and it requires .NET Framework.
However, I am not sure if it is only .NET Framework that causes the problem ... and in fact, I just looked in control panel and it looks like .NET Framework is installed after all .... It seems that when I had Windows automatic updates on that it also caused a BSOD. I just looked and the following update failed:
Update for Windows (KB948610)
Installation date: 1/21/2009 4:59 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 80004005
Update type: Important
Fix for KB948610

Also, My OS is 64 bit Vista and it has 4GB memory, which I have read may be an issue, but it seems like the 4GB error only happens if you are installing Vista, not if it is already installed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for your help. Let me know if you need anything - I copied the dump file to a usb drive if that would help to narrow it down.
