Upgrades to Vista from XP

Quite a few of my XP clients have requested upgrades to Vista in the last few days. They have been reading that their XP support and updates will cease in the near future and are suddenly waking up to the fact that Vista is now 'cheaper'.

It is as if Vista is brand new again. Nevermind that Windows 7 is lurking on the horizon.

Anybody else found this or thinking this way?

Yes, I've seen a lot more xp users coming into the forums lately, even in the Seven Forum.

In the past week alone, I've built 16 new computers, 9 of which where for people that are tired of the limitations imposed upon them by XP, and they wanted Vista upgrades, except the PCs where not up to specs to run it properly...

Yes Peter, I have run into exactly those problems, it is now a question of upgrading or new computers.

I feel sooooo sorry for those poor souls who stuck it out with XP and will be skipping Vista entirely and switching directly to Windows 7 - they're going to have the hardest time of all!

They're going to be quite confused.

Windows 7 is suppose to have a lower hardware requirement though, correct?

Yeah, sure, Windows 7 is supposed to be compatible with a wider range of hardware. But remember that it IS going to be more advanced than Vista, so it will probably give horrible performace on XP-era machines. If you already have horrible performace on your machine now with Vista, you're not magically going to have a blistering fast machine when you upgrade to Windows 7.

All those people who stuck out with XP by not upgrading to Vista are going to have a really horrible time switchng from XP to Windows 7. First, because their hardware is way out of date by now, and secondly because because comparing Windows XP to Windows 7 is like comparing Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 - they are partially similar while at the same time being totally different.

XP is supported thru 2014...

XP is going to keep running on existing machines anyway.

I have a friend who still has Windows 3.1 installed on his 386. It runs just fine.
