Vista overriding my permissions

I've got a program that starts up when the computer does, or so I've told Vista a thousand times. It still blocks it every time I reboot the computer. How can I set a permission for the thing to run all the time? I can't seem to find where to do that either... I can find my way to the window that shows what's permitted and what's not, but I can't edit them. I'm logged in as an administrator, so I should be able to, but Vista's being overly protective (really, I have a mother for that

)

Why is it doing this to me?

have you unblocked the application in the properties???

right click the application and click properties and on the bottom it should say unblock....

click on the button....

what steps did you use to make the application startup on the computer??

I think it sort of insinuated itself (it's called FreeRam XP Pro, so it's a beneficial one to have start.) Now it always gets blocked at startup, and when I tell Vista to always run it and to never ask, it still blocks it.

And yes, what you said would be there was there. I told it to unblock it, so there shouldn't be any more problems. Thanks.

From the name of the program (FreeRam XP Pro), I'd guess that Vista is perpetually blocking it because of compatibility issues.

Have you tried to locate an updated version of this program that is certified for use with Vista? Although this may be unnecessary. Windows Vista has far better memory management than XP.

Also, I'm guessing that you use this program to freeup memory. Would it not just be easier to install more RAM onto your motherboard?

It's got two gigs (well, 1983 MB), but "more ram" won't fix memory leaks or anythigng which Firefox seems prone to. They fixed most of them in Firefox 3 but every once in a while it starts eating all my RAM again. I could put ten gigs in there and it'd take it all eventually.

There's no later version than the one I have either.

Memory managers are nothing but trouble...
Uninstall it.
Or use Mike Lin's Startup CPL to handle your startup apps more effectively...

Also, Vista is much less prone to memory leaks - I *highly* suggest that you *not* use this program in Vista for several weeks and see how things work.

Another thought - if the program requires administrative privileges, it will *by default* always be blocked on startup - unless you use something to delay the startup of it (WinPatrol is a good one to do that).
