Having Problems with Vista Business 32-bit

Hello everyone ,
I have been using Vista for a couple of months and have done a lot of installations and uninstallations so far.

My problem is that the PC boots up very slowly and I began to occasionally receive Blue Screen Errors. I think I have most up to date drivers for my hardware and applied most of the tutorials in the Speed Up the Performance of Vista Tutorial on my PC. However I have a RAID 0 setup and 3 partitions on my HDs and couldn not apply the #6. Enable Advanced Performance for the Hard Drive tutorial.

At system startup up Windows Explorer crashes sometimes and while playing Adobe Flash Movies from a CD I got an Blue Screen Error after I restarted the computer in Safe Mode with Net Support and now I am writing this post; the computer booted faster in safe mode without Kaspersky AV and ATI CCC.

After boot the windows reported that the cause of unexpected error was Intel Matrix Storage Manager(iaStor.sys)? I have used Uniblue Driver Scanner 2009 to scan the drivers and update them as necessary recently. How can I find out if there is any driver conflicts or cluster on the main drive? I have SP1 installed with 4GB physical RAM whose only 3070 MB can be used and have the latest drivers avaible for my GPU and the latest BIOS for my MOBO.

I also experience lack of performance while displaying desktop, executing a program. Furthermore I want to know how can I access Boot logs manually.Help in every way is appreciated just let me now if you need any files like dxdiag etc. BTW Great Forum and sorry for quite a long post.

Hi TMM, one sure answer for the 3 GB of ram showing is that you are using 32 bit OS.

Well, assuming every thing is up to date and overheat is not a problem, I will run mentest and chkdsk to eliminate that the memory and the HDDs are at fault.

Besides, as a routine, please check all connections and components are set and secure. Pay special attention to the SATA connections at the HDDs by wiggle, shack, and tug on them to assure a good connection. Replace SATA cables with after market ones when you have a chance. The one comes with the mother board usually are problematic.

Thanks for reply but I do not want to open the case and mess with the cables because my PC is on warranty and I can not afford to void it. However I will try running memtest and chkdsk and post the results.

CHKDSK returned with no errors but I have yet to run memtest.exe. The boot up problems although lessened still persist thanks for help.

Have you contact the manufacturer for solutions? or processing for a replacement? For trouble shooting I believe they will advice you to open the case (if it is a desktop unit) if they feel if you are knowledgeable and dexterous enough without voiding the warranty. What brand of computer is it?

I have run memtest which returned no errors at all.(two copies at the same time) Now when I am updating Kaspersky AV 6 sometimes the internet connection is lost it happens too often why this occurs and how can I resolve it ? My computer reboots over 100 seconds which I think way too much for my system speak and settings.
PS: I do not think the problem is hardware based.

Hi TMM, have you try to system repair or restore?

On the internet connection problem, you may check on the router by disconnect and reconnect it. Also, try a different cable because I see so many badly built connectors; also, as usual, check for driver.

I do not have a system restore point that was taken before the problem occurred so this option is eliminated. The disconnection problem persists and only Kaspersky AV 6.0 causes it while update manager is running it stops to an halt and the connection is lost in addition to these I can not lauch my modems web interface while this problem is present.(Sounds weird!?) The only remedy is to switch off the modem then switch it back on. I have read the tutorial and done the tweaks. There is an improvement of 12 seconds or so but I still think the boot time is long compared to others with similar systems. My modem's brand is SpeedTouch, model number is 585 and it is connected to my PC via ethernet cable.

I will say,, from my experience, Kaspersky is a good AV program, when it works, it does it's job very well, but over the last couple years I have seen it become a major resource hog, even slowing the beefiest of systems. I would recommend trying something else like NOD32, which does have an impact but not as big as I have seen Kaspersky do. Live OneCare is actually pretty decent. Do not use AVG anything.

But other than that, I think you have bigger problems than KAV.

What model dell, what are the specs?

Find out if you have a Seagate or Western Digital or what manufacturer Hard Drive and run their HDD Diags. CHKDSK is never enough to determine if the drive is bad or not.

Then run Memtest or Windows Memory Diag (hit "t" when it starts) for no less than 4 to 6 hours to fully test the memory. One or 2 passes is only good if you get an error by then, otherwise you haven't fully tested the ram.

Also, what are the stop codes you are getting from the BSOD's.
To see them.....
You need to turn off the Auto Restart on system failure. I am not at my vista system so can't tell you how, but you can find that info somewhere here.

From memory....
Right Click Computer / Properties
On the left I think its Advanced Options
Then Advanced Tab
Startup and Recovery settings
Uncheck Automatically Restart
