Wierd CPU readings

Ok so I'm again asking about CPU temps...

This time, my readings for my CPU are:
Core #0: ~40C
Core #1: ~42C
Core #2: ~49C
Core #3: ~49C

Shouldn't they all be about the same? And shouldnt they be down at like 30 and below at IDLE? Those are my idle temps. I was running about the same, and i just put in new thermal paste (i thought it was spread unevenly) and its still the same... Higher if anything. Right after startup i got 61 on core 2! AGH!

Im using a Intel Q8200 @ 2003.70 MHz (roughly) and have a big fan and heatsink on it. My case even has its side off, and its like 70F in my house! I'm confused, and a little scared for summer, fearing my processor melting in my room. (It gets to about 100F in there with the computer on.)


I guess i am looking for advice, or if this is normal. What should i do to fix it if it isnt, or what?

Which app are you using to check the temps?

In real temp you test the sensors for movement. Some quads have faulty sensors that won't accurately report idle temps. If you have a sensor that differs largely from the others, or zero movement, then most likely it's stuck.

For example, my Q9550 idles at 38,33,*38,* (core 3 has uneven movement and core 4 does move at all for idle, but it reports load temps fine). There will usually be one core that is always a higher temp than the others, as it's generally used more.

When you applied the thermal paste, did you properly clean the old paste off? How much paste did you put on? How is your airflow?

what is your fan config like..?? cable management will also play a big part in overall temps...

my idle temps were the same, if not higher than yours a few days ago....but i placed a new 80mm fan in my side panel, it sits horizontally with my HSF & blows directly on it, it dropped my temps a great deal :eek::eek:

here are my new temps as of this minute...& im OCed @ 3.5ghz, & its pretty warm in my bedroom :D

my airflow was always pretty good without the side fan, but the results AMAZED me...

the actual cores always differ slightly in overall temp, though 61c is a high load temp for a 45nm chip, especially if its stock...

there is also the possibility you have a hot chip by default, but we wont be so pessimistic.....lol ;)

i think you should work on the airflow in your machine.

Lets see... i have five fans in my case. One is on the CPU cooler, and i have four i think like 40mm fans, one on the side panel, one in the front, and two in the back.
The one in the PSU is obvious, it has just one in the back.

If i ever get around to it, i need a new case i think for more fans. And if i ever find the time i might just make my own case. Just strip down an old one and build it from there..... hmmmmm..... I could have like 6 120mm fans!!! :cool:

lol....;) i've been toying with the idea of a case mod for ages, just never got round to it, but if you have the time & capability a custom ventilation system perfectly designed for the positions of your components is always gonna work best...

they wont replace your chip b/c it runs hot i don't think, they will just see it as a functional chip....

are you sure they're 40mm..?? i cant believe they would use such small chassis fans..??

you need to put your side panel back on, while its off there's no air pressure or direction of flow, not to mention your motherboard is a magnet for dust while its powered up...

so grab some big ass fans & chuck em in there!! ;)

I would, I just need MONEY!!!!! I will probably just go buy a new case as soon as i can, and from there we will see about building a custom case...
